Fic: The Morning After

Title: The Morning After

Characters: Dean, Sam, Castiel, James (OC)
Summary: James and Dean wakes up after a drunken night with no memory of the night before.
Rating: PG13
A/N: I had to write this as Dean deserves some love as well. And, yeah, James does get around a bit.

James groaned as he sat up in bed, feeling his head spin and wondering if it was about to drop off and bounce back on to his pillow. There also was a horrible taste in his mouth. He ran his fingers through the tangled mess that was his hair and winced. 'I'm going to need a haircut soon,' he thought. He lay back on the pillows and closed his eyes, hoping the sick feeling will pass soon. A sudden weight on his chest made him open his eyes again. He frowned, not remembering much of the night before. "Did I go out and pick up someone?" he muttered, wincing as the sound of his own voice seemed to echo around his skull. He looked down and saw that the weight belonged to one Dean Winchester. He paused, taking in the peaceful look on the other man's face. "Dean, wake up," he said gently. He noted that there was a large dent in the bathroom door that was definitely not there the night before. He looked over to the other bed and saw that Sam had left already, hopefully to get some coffee. He looked down and saw that neither he or Dean weren't wearing anything under the covers and he frowned, which was a big mistake as it made his aching head hurt even more.

Dean's eyes opened and he looked up at James blearily. "Dude, where's the fire?" He stretched and winced. "I feel like I was hit by a truck. What happened?"

"No idea. All I remember was lots of whiskey and a Nine Inch Nails song. The rest is a blur." James rubbed at his neck. "Ow!" He reached for the painkillers on the bedside table and poured out a few tablets, handing two to Dean. He swallowed the painkillers in his hand, sipping at a bottle of water, sticking his tongue out in disgust at the taste. "Urgh!" He sighed in relief as his headache slowly disappeared.

Dean dry swallowed the tablets and peered at James' neck. "Looked like something chewed on your neck."

"I think that was you."

"I don't bite. You're the one that bites."

"Apparently you do. I didn't bite my own neck."

"We need coffee and then maybe we can work out what happened."

"Oh, I think I can guess what happened. We are naked, by the way."

Dean rubbed his eyes as he pieced together what James was saying. "Shit. Dude, this is awkward." Dean looked over to the other bed. "Where's Sam and Cas?"

"Hopefully gone to get some coffee. We're going to need it."

Dean groaned. "I feel like I've been mauled by a rabid werewolf," he commented, forgetting that he was within hitting distance of James.

James smacked Dean on the arm. "I'm not rabid."

Dean pushed James back, making the red haired man fall backwards off the bed with a yelp of shock. "Ha! I win." He smirked at the flow of insults and threats directed at him from the other man. "I'm impressed, you haven't had to repeat yourself once."

James sat up, his red hair falling over his forehead and sticking up at the back and glared at Dean. "Not bad... for a sub."

"I'll show you sub," Dean declared, leaping off the bed and pinning James down on the carpet. "Who's the sub now?"

Sam and Castiel chose that moment to come back in the room. Sam's eyes widened as he took in the sight before him. "Uh, we'll come back later."

Castiel tilted his head. "Are you two naked mud wrestling without the mud?"

"No! We, uh... Dean, will you get off me? I'm going to have carpet burns on my back now," James stated with an unreadable look on his face.

"Uh, will you cover yourselves. There are some parts of my brother I don't really need to see," Sam said, looking away from Dean and James and ending up looking at Castiel. "And before you say anything, Alaska doesn't count."

Dean clambered off James and moved to put some underwear on. "Is that coffee?" he asked, indicating the cups in Sam and Castiel's hands.

Sam nodded. "I brought breakfast as well."

James quickly stood up and pulled on a pair of boxers. "Sam, you are my best friend." He took the Styrofoam cup that Sam held out to him. "Mmm, marry me." He saw Castiel's frown. "Don't worry, Cas, I don't limit myself to just one person, you know," he added quietly.

"Dude, you really are a slut for coffee, aren't you?" Dean asked, taking one of the cups from Castiel.

"Not much I won't do for a coffee," James answered with a smirk.

"Good to know," Sam commented with a wry smile on his face.

"Coffee's like your Scooby Snacks then?" Dean asked, watching as James let out a purr of contentment as he drank from the cup.

James raised an eyebrow. "Did you just compare me to a Great Dane?"

"No, you're more like a rabid werewolf."

"Says Mr-I-Left-Teeth-Marks-In Your-Neck-Because-I-Felt-Like-Being-A-Vampire-Last-Night," James grumbled.

Sam looked between the two men and raised his eyebrows. "Well, you two looked cosy when I, uh, woke up this morning. You must have had fun last night."

"No clue what happened last night. We were hoping you could enlighten us."

"There was whiskey. Lots of whiskey," Dean stated with a smirk. "We have a faint idea which involves insert tab A into Slot B, if you know what I mean," he added with a wink.

"I don't need those mental images, thank you," Sam stated, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "So, are you two a couple now or what?"

"Where were you last night?" James questioned, turning the focus onto Sam and Castiel, and not answering Sam's question. "I mean, you weren't there before Dean and myself got sloshed."

"We were... doing some research," Sam said, a blush creeping up his neck.

Dean wiggled his eyebrows. "Oh, is that what they're calling it these days?"

"There was some reading and we lost track of time because Sam..," Castiel began, trailing off as Sam placed a hand over his mouth.

"Researching what?" James asked pointedly. "What time did you get back?"

"Do I look like the font of all knowledge?" Sam asked, exasperated with his brother and friend. "For all you know, We could've walked in on you two while you were... getting cosy."

"You didn't. Otherwise you wouldn't have asked us what we did last night because you would know, so you got in after we fell asleep."

"All right, Sherlock, we didn't. But as I said, we lost track of time," Sam retorted, glaring at James.

"Are you two suffering what is known as an 'Alcohol–Induced Blackout'?" Castiel asked, complete with finger quotes, trying to get back to the matter at hand.

"Yeah, Cas, we are. Next thing you'll know is there's a tiger in the bathroom," Dean retorted.

"That happened in Cardiff one time," James muttered, "but it wasn't a tiger and it was in my kitchen. That could be because there is a rift through time and space running through the city."

"It's like you're from outer space or something," Dean commented, giving James a strange look.

"No, I'm from Scotland, I only work in outer space."

"All right, Admiral Kirk. You made your point. Hey, we should have that as one of your aliases," Dean stated, ignoring the scowl James is shooting him.

"I don't understand. Why would there be a tiger in the bathroom?" Castiel asked, looking confused.

Dean slung an arm around Castiel's shoulders. "Dude, we really need to update your pop-culture knowledge." He paused. "But first, I'm going to have a shower and then we can work out what happened last night."
